RAFFERTY VERSUS LYLE – WHAT A TREAT!
Don’t you just love watching the old farts have an absolute chop round quality golf courses in high profile events? No – me neither!
As I write this, Rafferty and Lyle are locked in combat to find who can make slightly less of a fool of themselves. After two rounds they are 53 over between them with Lyle leading by 7. Judging by what we have seen so far though, this lead could disappear in one hole!
What saddens me most is that two current players are denied the opportunity to compete in a career changing event; the winner is elevated to superstar status. Take last year’s winner, Jeev Milka Singh. He won sportsman of the year in his home country and was also awarded the equivalent of a knighthood and diplomatic status (no more customs for him!). Although India may have gone a bit overboard, I’m sure two lads would have appreciated the chance to become household names in their country of birth.
You can have your say on this one! Ed. says kick the old farts out of high profile events – give the current breed their chance!
