THE BEST GOLF COURSE IN THE WORLD – BAR NONE!
The season finale is played at Valderrama in the south of Spain and my view is that it is the finest golf course in the world!
So much time is spent thinking about how to make golf courses more difficult for professional golfers; a quick visit here would provide the answers. The course is only 6900 yards, proving you don’t need the 7200 plus yards now becoming typical across the globe. Also, some of the trickiest holes are 350ish yard par 4 holes that require thought from tee and fairway rather than just big biceps.
My personal favourite quality of the course is that missing the fairway causes serious problems. You can’t smash it anywhere and find, like so many US courses and, to be fair, is often the case on links courses over here too. You need position ‘a’ from the tee, as the greens are so cunningly shaped that merely hitting them isn’t sufficient; you need far more precision than that or you are easily in three-putt territory!
So, enjoy the players shooting level par and being delighted, without being subjected to USGA crazy golf.
Club Valderrama – Fantastico!!
