BRABAZON BALLS UP COSTS WHITNELL
Golf shout member Dale Whitnell must have been delighted to have shot 65 in the second round of the Brabazon Trophy - English Amateur Strokeplay championship - and see himself atop the leaderboard.
Then it rained!
For some strange reason the whole round was then abandonned - leaving qualifiers missing the cut without a second opportunity to play and Dale back down the leaderboard.
Most 'major' amateur tournaments have 2 rounds on the final day. Why? God knows! Short breaks and having to rush round turns them into fitness tests rather than true golfing ones and bears no relationship to the professional game to which the players mostly wish to aspire.
This tournament should have seen the second round completed, a cut and a final round on the time left Sunday (with Dale teeing off in the last pair!)

Major amateur events should only have one round per day
